A Provincial Decision Formalising Governance and Management Structures
In November 2025, Hinboun Geopark was officially established through a formal decision of the Governor of Khammouane Province, marking a decisive step in the structuring of the territory and its governance.
On 18 November 2025, Provincial Decision No. 424 formally created the governance and management bodies of the Hinboun Geopark. This decision established a multi-level governance system, including a Provincial Geopark Governance Committee, a dedicated Geopark Management Structure, a Scientific Committee, and a Consultative Committee bringing together civil society and local economic actors.
The governance committee is tasked with defining strategic orientations, supervising implementation of the Geopark Management Plan, and ensuring coordination between provincial, district, and community levels. The management structure is responsible for day-to-day operations, coordination with stakeholders, preparation of technical documentation, and planning actions in line with UNESCO requirements.
This official decision provides a clear institutional framework and confirms the strong commitment of provincial authorities to the sustainable development, protection, and future UNESCO Global Geopark designation of the Hinboun territory.
