Raising Awareness on the Geopark Concept in Nakai and Khounkham Districts
In September 2025, Hinboun Geopark conducted a series of awareness-raising activities in the districts of Nakai and Khounkham to introduce local communities to the Geopark concept and the objectives of the Hinboun Geopark project.
These sessions focused on explaining what a Geopark is, its role in protecting geological heritage, and its contribution to sustainable local development through education, tourism, and community involvement. Particular attention was given to the UNESCO Global Geoparks principles and the importance of strong local ownership.
As part of this process, adhesion agreements were officially signed with all villages located within the defined perimeter of the future Geopark. These agreements mark a shared commitment between local communities and public authorities to work together for the protection, management, and valorisation of the Hinboun territory.
This important step strengthened dialogue with communities and laid the foundations for inclusive and participatory governance of the Geopark.
